Christal Hanson is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the state of West Virginia. Christal’s areas of expertise include trauma, anxiety, grief/loss, depression and life transitions.  

Education and Counseling Philosophy

My therapy practice is grounded in the strong belief that each individual possesses a deep capacity for wisdom, growth and healing.  My role as therapist is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients can navigate life challenges, heal from painful experiences and enjoy tremendous personal growth.  

I am trained and competent in a variety of therapeutic approaches.  I do use Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to assist clients in treating unresolved trauma and overcoming distressing life experiences.   

I graduated from Shepherd University with a BS in Sociology and BA in Psychology.  I proceeded to obtain a Masters of Social Work(MSW) from West Virginia University.  I also possess a graduate certificate in Human Services Management from University of Maryland School of Social Work.
